SO THAT, THAT WOULD BE JUST A, A STUDY. BUT, YOU KNOW, WE ALREADY FUNDED ALMOST 12 MILES OF NEW SIDEWALKS IN THE TOWN, AND A LOT MORE IS BEING, UM, YOU KNOW, PLANNED FOR THE FUTURE. UM, ALONSO DALEY AND UFF TO REPRESENT THE TOWN OF GREENBURG IN THE MATTER OF CHRISTINE, UH, PROVEN ALLEY, UH, VERSUS THE TOWN OF GREENBURG. UH, FOR AN ADDITIONAL AMOUNT I'LL EXCEED 25,000, A HUNDRED THOUSAND IN TOTAL. I'D LIKE TO MOVE THAT SECOND IN FAVOR. AYE. AYE. UM, IT WAS JOY'S TURN. OH, ACTUALLY I SEE SAMANTHA. I CAN'T BELIEVE IT. I NEED [00:15:01] GLASSES BEFORE I DO THAT. UM, YOU ARE WEARING THEM. EXACTLY. IT NEEDS A DOUBLE PAIR. I NEED, I NEED A, A NEW PAIR OF GLASSES. . UM, BUT, UM, SAMANTHA'S, UM, SPOKE, UH, TO THE BOARD ABOUT A YEAR AGO. UH, SHE HAS A FOUNDATION THAT, UM, IS WORKING REALLY HARD TO, UM, ENCOURAGE, UM, PARENTS TO BE ALERT AND UM, AND PEOPLE TO BE ALERT IF THEY HAVE A LITTLE CHILD WHO'S AT THE POOL. UM, BECAUSE, UM, UH, SADLY, UM, HER SISTER, UM, WAS A VICTIM OF A DROWNING INCIDENT WHEN SHE WAS YOUNGER AND SHE'S GIVING BACK AND TRYING TO, UM, ENCOURAGE OTHER FAMILIES TO, TO TAKE PRECAUTIONS BECAUSE, JUST TAKES A SECOND. SO WOULD YOU LIKE TO SAY SOMETHING? YEAH, GREAT. I REALLY APOLOGIZE THAT I, UH, THAT I DIDN'T SEE YOU. OKAY. YOU'RE GOOD. OKAY. HI, I'M SAMANTHA PEFFER AND I'M PRESIDENT OF THE WATER GUARDIAN FOUNDATION. WHEN I WAS EIGHT, I TRAGICALLY LOST MY SISTER TO A DROWNING INCIDENT. THAT WAS WHEN MY FAMILY LEARNED THAT DROWNING IS THE NUMBER ONE CAUSE OF DEATH FOR CHILDREN AGES ONE TO FOUR. WE THEN TOOK INITIATIVE TO TRY TO CHANGE THE STATISTIC AND CREATED THE WATER GUARDIAN FOUNDATION TO SPREAD AWARENESS ABOUT THIS TOPIC BECAUSE THE TRUTH IS NO ONE THINKS IT WILL HAPPEN UNTIL IT'S TOO LATE. I CAME HERE TODAY TO REMIND EVERYONE THAT THE RISK OF DROWNING IS REAL. I WANT TO REMIND ADULTS IN THIS ROOM THAT DROWNING DOESN'T HAPPEN DURING SWIM TIME, BUT INSTEAD WHEN ADULTS ARE BUSY AND CHILDREN NOT, ARE NOT SUPPOSED TO BE NEAR WATER. AND DROWNING HAPPENS IN SECONDS. SO IT IS OF UTMOST IMPORTANCE TO KEEP YOUR CHILD SAFE AT ALL TIMES, WHICH REQUIRES THEM TO BE AT ARMS DISTANCE. WE ARE DISTRIBUTING FLYERS TO AS MANY FAMILIES AS POSSIBLE THROUGHOUT WESTCHESTER THAT HAVE ESSENTIAL INFORMATION ABOUT UTILIZING THE NEED FOR MULTIPLE LAYERS OF PROTECTION. WE ALSO CAME UP WITH A SIMPLE SOLUTION TO KEEP PEOPLE ALERT. THESE SERVE AS A TANGIBLE REMINDER ABOUT THE REALITY OF DROWNING. THIS IS A WATER GUARDIAN TAG, WHICH HANGS ON A LANYARD AND SHOULD BE WORN AROUND AN ADULT'S NECK, DESIGNATED THEM AS THE SO-CALLED WATER GUARDIAN. THIS WILL REMIND ONE PERSON TO KEEP WATCH OF CHILDREN. AS EVERYONE CAN DIFFUSE RESPONSIBILITY, THE TAG SHOULD BE WORN NOT ONLY WHILE CHILDREN ARE SWIMMING, BUT WHENEVER CHILDREN HAVE ACCESS TO POOLS. BECAUSE AS I'VE MENTIONED BEFORE, DROWNING TYPICALLY HAPPENS WHEN IT'S NOT DESIGNATED SWIMMING TIME. I'M PROUD TO SAY I'VE GIVEN OUT OVER 5,000 TAGS, BUT MY JOB IS NOT GREAT JOB. AMAZING. I WILL CONTINUE TO SPREAD AWARENESS, DISTRIBUTE WATER GUARDIAN TAGS, AND PARTNER WITH MORE ORGANIZATIONS INCLUDING ISR, WHICH IS A PROGRAM THAT TEACHES CHILDREN AGES SIX MONTHS TO SIX YEARS TO SAVE THEMSELVES IF THEY'RE IN THE WATER ALONE. WE HAVE SPONSORED SEVERAL CHILDREN TO PARTICIPATE IN THIS LIFESAVING PROGRAM AND WILL CONTINUE THIS EFFORT. BUT MY NEW INITIATIVE IS TO INCREASE THE NUMBER OF LIFEGUARDS IN OUR COMMUNITY. AS GOVERNOR HOKO RECOGNIZED THERE'S A LIFEGUARD SHORTAGE. NOT ONLY HAVE I STARTED THE WATER GUARDIAN CLUB IN MY SCHOOL, BUT I'VE ALSO CREATED THIS OPPORTUNITY FOR STUDENTS AROUND GREENBURG. AND I'M CURRENTLY WORKING ON A CLASS FOR YOUNGER STUDENTS. THESE TEENS WILL PROVIDE FREE LIFEGUARDING SERVICES TO FAMILIES IN OUR COMMUNITY WITH POOLS DURING SOCIAL GATHERINGS. 'CAUSE WE KNOW THIS IS WHEN CHILDREN ARE AT GREATEST RISK. IF ANYONE WANTS TO JOIN THIS INITIATIVE, THE WATER GUARDIAN FOUNDATION WILL FUND LIFEGUARD CERTIFICATION FOR ANY TEEN INTERESTED IN PARTAKING IN THIS EFFORT. IF ANYONE IS INTERESTED FOR BOTH LIFEGUARDING SERVICES AND COMPLETING A LIFEGUARD CERTIFICATION, EMAIL ME@SAMANTHAFFAGMAIL.COM. THANK YOU MR. FINER FOR GIVING ME THE OPPORTUNITY TO SPEAK TODAY AND THE REST OF YOU FOR TAKING THE TIME TO LISTEN TO ME. IF I CAN SAVE JUST ONE LIFE, I KNOW I'VE MADE A DIFFERENCE. ALRIGHT. THIS LAST WEEK, UH, THE PARKS AND RECREATION ADVISORY BOARD, UM, AGREED TO ALLOW YOUR FOUNDATION TO PUT UP POSTERS, UM, AT THE, AT VARIOUS LOCATIONS AT THE TOWN POOL. AND, YOU KNOW, THIS IS A WAY OF, UH, GENTLY REMINDING PEOPLE JUST TO BE CAREFUL BECAUSE A LOT OF PEOPLE EITHER TALKING TO THEIR FRIENDS AND THEY LOOK THE OTHER WAY AND IT JUST TAKES A SECOND TO DROWN. SO, UH, WE WILL BE WORKING TOGETHER ON THAT AND I REALLY APPRECIATE EVERYTHING YOU'RE DOING AND YOU REALLY MAKING A BIG, YOU KNOW, DIFFERENCE. YOU KNOW, I HAVE TO GIVE A BIG SHOUT OUT TO THE PARENTS. GREAT JOB DAD. . THANK YOU. YOU KNOW, THANK YOU. AMAZING, AMAZING YOUNG WOMAN. I SEE A LEADER TOTALLY AND HER AND THANK YOU FOR TAKING THAT TRAGEDY AND TURN IT AROUND TO MAKE SURE IT HELPS THE NEXT PERSON. SO WE SO TRULY APPRECIATE AND WE LOOK FORWARD TO WATCHING YOU DO ALL THE GREAT THINGS YOU'RE GONNA DO HERE IN THE TOWN, RIGHT? SO, THANK YOU. THANK YOU, THANK YOU. I HAVE NO DOUBT WE'LL SEE YOU NEXT YEAR. YES. YEAH. ALRIGHT. AND THE YEAR AFTER AND THE YEAR AFTER THAT. ALL RIGHT. SITTING RIGHT HERE. YOU MAY BE IN HARVARD, RIGHT? ALRIGHT, COME BACK. SCHOLARSHIP [00:20:01] ON, ON THE JUNIOR YEAR. WHAT SCHOOL DO YOU ATTEND? EDGEMONT. EDGEMONT. ALRIGHT. ALL THE BEST. THANK YOU SO MUCH. THAT'S GREAT. WELCOME. CONGRATULATIONS JUDGE. ALRIGHT, GREAT.
