PRESENTATION Assessor Edye McCarthy -- Re-Assessment Kick-off Presentation (7:00 - 8:30 PM)
MOMENT OF SILENCE In memory of and tribute to Mrs. Patricia Lanza, Philanthropist. Mrs. Lanza, called the Mother Theresa of Westchester by many, donated millions of dollars to the Town over the years for many worthwhile programs. Last year, alone, Mrs. Lanza wrote a check for over $200,000 to the Town (through her Lanza Family Foundation): the Arts and Culture program is completely funded by the Lanza Family Foundation. The Summer Police Youth Camp is funded by the Lanza Foundation. The Xposure after school program is a Lanza Family Foundation grant recipient. Six figure donation annually for the after school program. The Theodore D. Young Community Center and Greenburgh Parks and Recreation have received grants for worthwhile programs. One year, after the library announced plans to close the library on Sundays, Pat gave the town a big check to continue library programs on Sundays. She has supported a food kitchen that serves the hungry at Union Baptist Church. I can go on and on, Mrs. Patricia Lanza loved Greenburgh and did so much for our community. The Town of Greenburgh is eternally grateful for her love and support, and she touched the lives of all the residents of Greenburgh. In memory of and tribute to Arnold Laubich of Edgemont, who was a brilliant man. He volunteered his time helping the Town acquire the Greenburgh Town Hall. (We purchased a building that cost 12 million dollars for 6.8 million, with furniture). He provided advice to the Town Board during the library expansion planning process. Arnold was appointed a Deputy Supervisor for the Town of Greenburgh during the Midway Shopping Center expansion review process. He was honored by the Greenburgh Town Board as a Citizen of the Month. Arnold also led the effort to discourage Edgemont residents from breaking away from Unincorporated Greenburgh. He was always ready and willing to help the Town analyze complicated transactions. His advice was always appreciated and helpful. His recommendations helped make the Town a better place. In memory of and tribute to Howard Jacobs, former Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Greenburgh Public Library. Howard was the community leader most responsible for the expansion/construction of the new Greenburgh Library. Before the expansion took place Howard led a successful effort, persuading NYS to fund a Cyber Bookmobile enhancing library services for the community. After Howard retired as Chair of the Board of Trustees, the Greenburgh Library Board voted to name a photography gallery in honor of Howard and Ruth Jacobs. Howard was a former member of the Greenburgh Central School District School Board. He was a respected educator and was involved in many community activities (including the Dad’s Club) for many decades. In memory of and tribute to Julius R. Chemka, He served as a Trustee for the Village of Hastings on Hudson from 1970 to 1975 and then served as Mayor for three terms from 1975 to 1981. He belonged to the Hastings Southside Social and Athletic Club, the American Legion , the Tower Ridge Yacht and Pioneer Boat Clubs.
