MOMENT OF SILENCE Lowell Hawthorne, long-time resident of the Town of Greenburgh was the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of GoldenKrust Bakery and Grill. Considered, by the media in his country of origin, Jamaica, to have been “…the most successful Black Jamaican in business overseas.” Lowell built his family-run company, a successful Caribbean food chain that reaches from East Cost storefronts and ShopRite's to Costco's in California. Golden Krust has 120 franchises across the country and in 33 other countries worldwide, selling Jamaican beef patties, jerk chicken, sauces and authentic breads of the island. His company is the largest manufacturer of Jamaican patties in the United States, supplying a wide range of Caribbean culinary treats to supermarkets, schools, military bases and penal institutions. The motto is "We take the taste of the Caribbean to the world." His story of success evoked praise from high level national as well as international officials and he was featured on the CBS popular series, “Undercover Boss.” Rev. Dr. Leroy Richards, Pastor of First Community Church of the Nazarene, a Greenburgh house of worship, stated, “Mr. Lowell Hawthorne was a good man…but he was also a Godly man.”
