MOMENT OF SILENCE In memory of Richard Edelson. Richard, a successful entrepreneur and lifelong resident of the Town of Greenburgh, was truly dedicated to community service. He was a member of the Water District Advisory Board and the Captain of CERT, the Citizens Emergency Response Team, for the Town of Greenburgh. This team of volunteers has specific skills and experience as emergency responders and have helped to save lives as well as protect property. Richard was also President of the Westchester Citizen Corps Coalition, formed to help coordinate Westchester County CERT teams. Further, he was a certified CERT trainer and taught many courses to potential CERT students throughout Westchester County. Due to the extent of his community service and leadership activities, he was inducted into the Westchester Senior Citizen Hall of Fame in 2017. Indeed a role model for others, he was always constructive and known for his dedicated service and hard work. According to one of his colleagues and CERT members: “Richard's dedication, leadership and passion for the Greenburgh CERT team is simply remarkable. He leads with vigor and enthusiasm for all he does for the team. He is constantly communicating to the team and is extremely detail orientated in making sure nothing gets overlooked. Richard leads by example and truly empowers those on the team to take on leadership roles and do more. Our teams success would not be where it is today without Richard's leadership. He should serve as an example for other CERT team leaders across the country.” Andrew Sindell, American Red Cross, Metro, NY Chapter, North. May 4, 2013 Richard will be greatly missed. He left the world, and, certainly, the Town of Greenburgh, a much better place.
